PH logs over 2K new Covid-19 cases, total surges to 46,333

MANILA – For the second straight day, the Department of Health registered over 2,000 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the nationwide tally to 46,333.

The DOH recorded 2,099 new infections on Monday, on which 1,258 were “fresh” cases while 841 are considered “late” cases.

Fresh cases are those test results that were validated and released within three days while late cases are those over four days and beyond.

Data on recoveries the agency said, reached 243 for an overall total of 12,185.

Fatalities meantime, only had another single-digit incident at six (6) new deaths, pushing the total to 1,303.

Active cases of the Covid-19 in the country is currently at 32,845 nationwide.

This is obtained by deducting the record on recoveries and fatalities.

Of DOH’s latest case bulletin showed that 998 or nearly half of the new cases were recorded in Metro Manila even as 466 came from Central Visayas.

Other regions contributed 541 while the remaining 94 were from repatriates or overseas Filipinos who recently returned to the country.

The recent surge in new coronavirus cases in the country the DOH said could be the increased contact or interaction among the population as a result of a more relaxed quarantine measures imposed throughout the country except Cebu City which under ECQ.

Worldwide, the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, said Monday that over 11.4 million people have been infected by SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus strain that causes COVID-19.
