MANILA – At the inauguration of the COVID testing facility of San Miguel Foundation in Mandaluyong City, SMC President and CEO Ramon S. Ang made a swipe at some people whom he said put up the same but inadequate facility negating in the process its main purpose to help people.
“Sinasabi nila na yung RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine), ang rated capacity ay 10,000 per day ang naprocess kahapon ay 70 percent. Kahanga-hanga ‘yun. Yung iba naman, rated capacity, 5,000 ang na-process 2 percent lang,” Ang said.
The SMC top executive also poked at government officials who are “show-offs” but allegedly “earning a living” on swab booths for coronavirus tests.
“Lahat sila kumikita sa gobyerno, lahat sila kumikita sa bayan pero puro pakitang-tao…” Ang said in a report online by News Keener.
“Yung swab booth, P1000 isa nun. Eh kung bibili ka ng 250,000 na swab kits, 250 million (pesos) yun. Yung swab (booth), pakitang-tao lang yun,” Ang added.
Ang also stressed that true, and sincere pro-people kind of medical service amid the health crisis that the country is facing.
“Kailangan natin consumables. Kailangan natin swab kits. Kailangan natin totoong tumulong, hindi yung bola. Kailangan natin totoong tumulong, hindi yung bola,” he said.
Ang stated that many people are raking in profits amid the pandemic while others are allegedly using the health crisis to prop up their names before the public.
And so, with it, Ramon Ang urged the working media to extend ample coverage of testing centers and expose unscrupulous individuals who are only doing what they are doing for the sake of money and profit.
He also added that attention from the media on the matter could also shed light why Filipinos hide away from testing centers because of exorbitant fees.
“Kailangan imulat niyo yan sa taong-bayan. Who are the performers and who are not? Para mahiya silang lahat at mag-step up. So mga kababayan, sana po lahat tayo tumulong para matulungan ang mga mahihirap,” Ramon Ang further stressed.
He also added that there should be no reason for rich and less fortunate Filipinos to have an access to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) diagnostic test, otherwise known as the gold standard in Covid-19 testing.
At the San Miguel Foundation COVID-19 facility, tests are pegged at only P2,500. Results, it said, can be obtained within 24 hours. (Source: News Keener)
