DOH fails to give an update Sunday due to ‘significant volume of data’ on Covid-19 cases

MANILA – For the first time since Day 1 of the coronavirus outbreak, the Department of Health (DOH) failed to report Sunday updates on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Failure of the health agency to give an update for July 12, 2020 was due to “significant volume of data” that still needs to be processed it said.

However, the DOH said the latest update on Covid-19 for PH will be released Monday morning (13 July 2020) instead.

The DOH advised health reporters, who have waited until midnight Sunday for the daily report, its Data Team was still validating the July 12 figures and is seemingly overwhelmed by large amount of data.

“Due to the significant volume of data gathered today as part of DOH’s efforts to harmonize data with the cities of NCR and the different regions, the DOH Data Team is still currently in the process of validating today’s numbers,” the department said.

“We also note that because of the volume of data being validated, based on initial findings we are seeing an increase in today’s number of reported cases, recoveries, and deaths,” it added.

A “comprehensive report” on COVID-19 data for July 12 will be released at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13 the DOH said.

The DOH regularly releases case updates at around 4 p.m. daily but as in previous instances where reporting was delayed, a record-high number of new infections was recorded.

As of July 11, PH has 54,222 confirmed cases with 14,037 recoveries and 1,372 deaths.  (ia/SPH)
