MANILA – The Department of Health logged a record 4,325 single-day count of individuals who have rebounded from the killer disease on Monday, 13 July 2020.
With the record number of survivors, the highest number of recoveries recorded since the outbreak of the virus in March, the Philippines’ count of those who triumphed against the dreaded disease increased to 20,371.
However, the number of new patients afflicted by the coronavirus disease increased some more after the DOH chalked up 836 new infections.
This added the country’s caseload to 57,006.
The health agency said that of the newly-reported cases, 749 were detected within the last three days (fresh cases), while 87 were from the department’s validation backlog (late cases).
But 65 more people died from the severe respiratory illness, bringing the nation’s fatality count to 1,599.
Sunday’s delayed report saw a massive increase in the number of recoveries and fatalities which was released Monday morning, marking the first time that the DOH failed to publicize a daily update since the outbreak began.
The DOH said the number of new recoveries and deaths is expected to increase in the coming days due to increased “data reconciliation efforts” with local government units.
To date, the number of active cases in the Philippines stood at 35,036.
Worldwide, the COVID-19 pandemic has killed at least 568,000 people out of the 12.86 million registered cases.
