Members of labor groups Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) has filed a petition for the repel of the anti-terror law with the Supreme Court Thursday together with representatives from the Federation of Free Workers.
The newly-signed law repeals the Human Security Act of 2007 (HSA). It will penalize against those who will propose, incite, conspire, participate in the planning, training, preparation, and facilitation of a terrorist act; including those who will provide material support to terrorists, and recruit members in a terrorist organization.
President Duterte signed the anti-terror law last July 3, 2020 amid widespread opposition over fears that the measure could spur human rights violations and suppress dissent.
But Senate President Tito Sotto said Thursday the law has enough safeguards on human rights.
