MANILA – The number of police officers infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has reached 1,932 while the death toll has risen to 10, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said on Sunday.
“Umaabot sa 10. Ang pinakahuli ay isang kasama natin dito sa Kampo Crame. Binawian ng buhay sa Covid-19. Pinapaabot ni PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa ang lubos na pakikiramay sa pamilya ng namatay nating kasama (Those who died due to Covid-19 is now 10. The latest is a colleague at Camp Crame. PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa offered his sincerest condolences to the family of the decease,” Banac said in a radio interview on Sunday.
As of 6p.m. Saturday, Banac said the PNP Health Service reported 136 new confirmed Covid-19 cases among its ranks while a total of 706 personnel have recovered from the disease.
The PNP Health Service is also monitoring 725 probable cases and 2,449 suspected cases.
He said majority of cops who have contracted the Covid-19 are asymptomatic.
Banac said a cop tested for Covid-19 will observe a 14-day quarantine and undergo another test.
Once cleared, they have to rest for seven to 10 more days before going back to duty, he added.
He said infected cops came from those who are assigned in quarantine checkpoints. (PNA)
