MANILA — The following is a terse recollection by the author, Mon Cualoping on President Duterte’s maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Indeed, how time flies.
From his initial SONA, the Chief Executive who stormed his way from Davao to Malacanang, is now about to deliver his fifth (5th), penultimate SONA with the whole country on edge no thanks to an insurmountable, unseen coronavirus enemy.
To quote the author: “Tomorrow (Monday, 27 July 2020), we lay out our plans as we face a life with COVID-19. After all, we have a genuine leader in President Duterte.”
As the author puts it, much has been done, much progress achieved yet the opposition as they are known, “we are always wrong no matter what.”
Here’s Mon Cualoping’s terse recollection:

“(Four) 4 years ago, I took this photo (above) at the Batasang Pambansa as we wrapped up the highly successful 1st State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Positive emotions. Everyone was on a victory high.
The President exclaimed: I am ready to do my work for a better Philippines!
Tomorrow is the 5th State of the Nation Address of President Duterte. His penultimate.
How time flies. Much has been done. Much progress has been achieved since 2016 in all facets of governance.
However, the tapang at malasakit of the President is greatly tested and challenged because of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. The worst problem that our nation has faced since Independence.
Does not help that we have an unthinking Opposition and a bratty woke – that everything that we do is wrong! Imagine that! We are always wrong no matter what.
Yet, tomorrow, despite these obstacles, we focus. We cover our ears from the yakking of the few, but listen to valid points of the many.
Tomorrow, we lay out our plans as we face a life with COVID-19. After all, we have a genuine leader in President Duterte.
Tomorrow, and thanks to the seeds we planted the past 4 years, we shall exclaim: BETTER DAYS ARE COMING FOR THE PHILIPPINES!
Hang on, Pilipinas! 👊🏼🇵🇭
