Buried in septic tank, gruesome murder uncovered after 4 years

DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — It was a conspiracy hatched in hell when a 54-year-old former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was bludgeoned and stabbed to death by her own daughter and the latter’s live-in partner and then buried in a septic tank.

But the stench of the dastardly act was not forever concealed as the body of the victim was finally discovered four years later.

Police filed murder charges against Jhoana Marie Sayos, 22, and her live-in partner Ronald James Rubi, 26, primary suspects in the killing of Maria Evelyn Sayos, a resident on Phase 1 Villa Luisa Subdivision, Brgy. San Agustin 3 in this city.

According to P/Lt. Col. Richard Ang, Dasmariñas police station chief, the victim’s decomposing body was unexpectedly discovered last July 22 by her son Jovy Levy when her house was being renovated.

The victim’s body was placed inside a sack with her identification cards.

It was learned that it was in 2016 when Evelyn mysteriously disappeared.

Whenever her other children would ask Jhoana, the latter would always say that their mother had hastily left for Singapore after their petty quarrel.

They never had an iota of suspicion that something had gone awry in what they believed to be their home sweet home.

Why? Because whenever they would text their mother, Evelyn would always text back. But in fact, it was really Jhoana pretending to be their mother.

Ang said that based on their investigation, it was gathered that Rubi smashed the victim’s head with a hammer for still unknown reason.

Seeing Evelyn still gasping for dear life, Rubi asked Jhoana to get a knife to finish her off.

After the victim died, the suspects then dumped her body into an unfinished septic tank beside their house and poured cement on it.

Probers said Rubi would always put cement on the septic tank to conceal the stench from the victim’s body.

Apparently, conscience-stricken the suspects admitted their gruesome crime.

Reminds us of a classic tale entitled: God sees the truth but waits.
