PCOO Sec. Martin Andanar
MANILA – The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Tuesday guaranteed that all employees, including its custodian and janitorial staff, will be given assistance following their office’s lockdown due to active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a virtual briefing, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said they have activated the “Covid warriors” mechanism, which will ensure that support will be given to those affected by the disease.
Janitorial workers, who are deemed essential workers, are automatically given assistance from contact tracing up to linking for assistance from their local government. In-kind and cash donation drives from other employees and executives are also conducted to augment assistance that can be offered to them.
“Tayo’y nalulungkot sa mga kasamahan natin sa PCOO. Mahigit dalawampu na ang nagpositibo, active cases. At ilan sa kanila ay under maintenance so meaning sila po yung janitorial services (We feel sorry for some of our colleagues in PCOO. There are already more than 20 who tested positive. Some of them are under the maintenance or janitorial services),” he said.
The PCOO is employing both direct hires as contract service workers and agency-linked custodians.
Andanar said they are also appealing to employers in manpower agencies to take considerations for their employees deployed at PCOO.
“Kinakausap po natin ang kanilang mga [employers] ng janitorial services na kailangan huwag silang tanggalin at number 2, ay mabigyan din sila ng assistance sapagkat sila din naman ay maituturing na front-liner din (We are asking the employers of the janitorial services not to dismiss them from work. And number 2, provide them assistance since they are also considered as front-liners),” he said.
He said the PCOO is looking for ways that the COS personnel can still work from home.
“We understand that COS are under no work, no pay policy. It would be much better if we can find other jobs for them and pay their salaries while working from home,” he said. (PCOO PR)
