PH Covid-19 cases soar to 85,486

MANILA – The Department of Health on Wednesday, 29 July 2020, reported 1,874 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 that increased the country’s total caseload to 85,486.

However, the DOH explained that out of the total, only 56,528 are considered active cases obtainable by deducting the number of recoveries and fatalities.

The total number of recoveries in the country now stand at 26,996 after the DOH reported an additional 388 survivors of the virus which continues to ravage the world over.

On the other hand, the death toll is now pegged at 1,962 as 16 more mortalities were added.

Of the 16 additional deaths, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire explained that six of them occurred in July, six in June, three in May and one in March.

Six of the new mortalities were from Metro Manila, three (3) from Central Luzon, three (3) from Central Visayas, two (2) from Calabarzon, and one each from Mimaropa and Davao.

Hardest hit areas of new cases are NCR, 728; Cebu, 325; Laguna, 130; Iloilo, 67; and Rizal, 53.

Nine out of 10, or 90.1 percent of, active cases were mild cases while nine percent, or nine out of 100 cases were asymptomatic the DOH said.

Meanwhile, five (5) of every 1,000 cases (0.5 percent) were severe while four out of every 1,000 (0.4 percent) were critical.
