MANILA – The Department of Health has on Sunday, 09 August 2020, registered 3,109 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus and the country’s caseload of COVID-19 threatened to break the 130k mark.
The 3,109 additional infected patients on Sunday shoved PH’s total number of Covid infections to 129,913 but the DOH’s bulletin claimed only 59,970 of which are considered active cases.
Active cases are the net after recoveries and fatalities are deducted.
Recoveries surged to 67,673 after 654 more patients were given a clean bill of health in their fight against the virulent disease.
The number of fatalities nationwide reached 61 new deaths, bringing the total death toll to 2,270.
Once again, it was gathered that most of the 3,109 newly-reported cases came from the National Capital Region (NCR).
Considered as the epicenter of the virus, the NCR accounted for 1,700 even as Laguna registered 169, Cebu province had 114, while Rizal had 98, and Cavite, 93.
Along with the NCR, the provinces of Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, and Bulacan, are all currently under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) due to rising COVID-19 cases in these areas.
The DOH said majority of the cases, at 91.2 percent, remains mild while 7.5 percent are asymptomatic. Only 0.7 percent are severe cases, while 0.6 percent are in critical condition.
