CA denies Maria Ressa’s travel petition to US

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa

THE Court of Appeals (CA) has on Wednesday denied the petition of convicted journalist Maria Ressa to travel to the United States.

Ressa is the chief executive officer of online news site Rappler. She was convicted of cyberlibel early this year.

Denial of Ressa’s appeal was contained in a seven-page Resolution of the CA Special 14th Division, dated August 18, 2020.

It was signed by Justice Danton Bueser, chairman, along with Justice Geraldine Fiel-Macaraig, Senior Member and Justice Carlito Calpatura, Junior Member.

The CA said Ressa failed to prove that her travel abroad was necessary and she was not a flight risk.
