CITING ITS inaccuracy and waste of money, presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has discouraged private establishments and offices anew to refrain from using rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) for their employees.

The feisty mayor said the city hall had already dumped the use of RDT and is now using the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) instead.

“Posible nga nakatakod naka within one week bago pa man ka nag-positive sa imohang rapid testing kit result. It’s very dangerous nga mao kana inyong buhatong screening sa inyohang employees, as well as mag usik-usik mo og kwarta (There is a huge possibility you have already spread the virus within a week before your RDT test is released. It’s very dangerous to use this as a health screening tool for your employees. Aside from that, you are wasting your resources),” Duterte-Carpio explained on her Monday radio interview.

She added that it is also possible that there are positive cases whose RDT results yielded negative. Duterte-Carpio pointed out that according to the city’s medical consultants, the accuracy of the test results using RDT will only be determined after a week.

She stressed that it is high time that the residents to put to life the health protocols like staying home, wearing of face masks, social distancing and hand hygiene in order for the COVID-19 cases will go down.
