A three-year old child is given a Patak Polio Vaccine during the house-to-house immunization campaign in one of the barangays in the province of Cavite on August 17, 2020.
Cavite – The Department of Health (DOH)-Calabarzon has on Thursday (20 August 2020) started to roll out the first round of polio vaccination for the provinces of Cavite and Rizal.
Schedule for the two provinces is slated from August 17-30, 2020.
Calabarzon is made up of provinces Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon.
“Come rain or come shine we will proceed with the house-to-house campaign in order to fully immunize the target children of 0-5 years old,” Calabarzon Regional Director Dr. Eduardo Janairo said.
“We have to prioritize Laguna, Cavite and Rizal due to reported polio cases and their proximity to Metro Manila. They had polio cases on the same month last year.”
“Batangas and Quezon province will also have their polio vaccination after we have finished with the three provinces which are the high risk areas that need to be immunized immediately for the protection of the target population of children and to prevent its spread and eventually stop its transmission,” Janairo added.
Target of the DOH in the region for polio vaccination is 452,105 children 0 to 5 years of age in Cavite and another 336,772 children in Rizal.
There are about 13 reported polio cases on the country since September 19, 2019 to date.
Identified cases were caused by vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (VDPV2).
Janairo reiterated the call to parents and guardians of children aged 0-5 years old to have their children vaccinated.
“Magbabahay-bahay po ang ating mga “bakuna doors” upang mamigay ng bakuna. Ito po ay garantisadong ligtas at ito lang po ang tanging paraan upang maiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng polio sa mga batang 0-5 years old,” Janairo said.
The director also acknowledged the support and active participation of the local government units for the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio Campaign.”
The schedule for the second round of “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” will be on September 7-20, 2020 for the provinces of Cavite, Laguna and Rizal.
