SEEING THAT PEOPLE are discouraged by the “pricey” cost of having themselves checked if they got the novel coronavirus disease, presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has assured the public that the city government will shoulder all Covid-19 testings.
The mayor disclosed that the city government is presently using some of its financial resources, including the Public Service Enhancement Fund and the Crisis Intervention Fund, to spend for the testing of probable and suspected victims of the deadly disease.
“Wala man ta nagapabayad sa testing sa pagkakaron because we expect na pricey siya for people, and basin tungod sa price dili magpa-test ang mga tao. Ang gusto nato sa pagkakaron is mag-testing ang mga tao (We shoulder the cost of the test for now because we are expecting it to be pricey on the part of the people. People might not have themselves tested if we won’t do it for free. What we want now is that we intensify our testing to the public.),” Duterte-Carpio said on Thursday in her radio intervew with 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.
Duterte-Carpio further bared that the city government already spent the P6-million allocated for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) testing from the national government’s Bayanihan Grant to Cities and Municipalities (BGCM).
The mayor said that upon receiving the BGCM worth P476-million from the Bayanihan to Heal as One (BAHO) Act of the national government, the city government immediately utilized a portion for its Covid-19 response, including testing.
“Gi-una nato to og gamit (We initially used this fund) because we are mandated to use it immediately for Covid-19 activities and operations,” Duterte-Carpio stressed.
She said these include the purchasing of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kits and the payment of private laboratory testing for swab testing
