NOTWITHSTANDING BEING BRANDED KILLJOY, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday stood pat with her order to conduct massive contact tracing as one of the 40 guests has tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) after the wedding of a prominent couple.
The mayor ordered the personnel of the Davao city health office to exert all efforts to trace the suspected Covid-19 carrier and curb the spread of the dreaded virus.
“Before nahitabo ang wedding party, niistorya na daan ang organizer na (Before the wedding party, the organizer already warned, saying) ‘Look. What you are planning is risky because it can possibly be a source of the spread of the Covid’,” Duterte-Carpio lamented in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.
She said in a statement that the city government was contemplating filing legal actions against the couple, whom she has yet to identify.
Duterte-Carpio also chided the family for holding the event even amid the Covid-19 pandemic and despite the wedding organizer’s warning.
Although she did not identify anyone but Duterte-Carpio bluntly criticized some wealthy families who continue to defy with the government’s protocol.
The mayor said she has asked the City Legal Office what could be the possible charges for those responsible for the holding of the event.
Duterte-Carpio, however, pointed out that she is not against the public holding celebrations, especially birthday parties, but minimum health protocols must be observed, including the wearing of face masks, two-meter physical distancing, and handwashing with soap and water, or with alcohol, while in public areas.
