DFA reports 10 new infections among overseas Pinoys

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday said 10 more Filipinos contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Americas and the Middle East, raising the total to 10,096.

It also reported two new fatalities and three new recoveries abroad, bringing the total to 757 and 6,177, respectively.

Based on the latest data provided by the agency, most of the fatalities and recoveries are recorded in the Middle East with 476 and 4,164.

The active cases, meanwhile, are pegged at 3,162, with at least 350 undergoing treatment in the Asia Pacific region, 311 in Europe, 2,335 in Middle East/Africa, and 166 in the Americas.

“The DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, continues to partner with host governments to ensure the safety and well-being of Filipino nationals abroad amid the pandemic,” the DFA said in a statement.

Globally, there have been 25,327,098 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 848,255 deaths, reported to the World Health Organization as of September 1.

More than 50 percent of the confirmed cases are registered in the Americas with 13,356,411 infections to date, followed by Europe and Southeast Asia with over 4 million each, the Eastern Mediterranean with 1,927,266, Africa with 1,056,120, and Western Pacific with 497,405.

In the Philippines, health authorities on Wednesday reported 2,218 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, bringing the country’s tally to 226,440 with 158,610 recoveries and 3,623 deaths. (PNA)
