MANILA – The Manila Police District has activated two new police stations, Police Station 12 in Del Pan and Police Station 13 in Baseco, both in Tondo, Manila.

During the formal activation of the police stations at the Quirino Grandstand on Wednesday, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said both Del Pan and Baseco are considered challenging areas most especially for uniformed personnel.

“The criminals took the opportunity to govern among themselves in those communities taking advantage of the weaknesses of poor people,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino.

Domagoso said this is the first time in his more than 20 years of public service in the city government that additional police stations were opened in the city.

Domagoso said with the installation of the two new police stations, he hopes to put things, most especially the peace and order situation in those areas, in the right perspective.

Domagoso reminded police personnel assigned in Del Pan and Baseco to be fair and just and treat residents with genuine care and concern.

At the same time, he asked them to get rid of the criminal harboring practice in those communities.

“Let us try to be more understanding to those who need justice, those who need the help of policemen, but be tough and do not give the opportunity for criminals to abuse the people,” he said.

Domagoso said his wish for the residents in those communities especially the children is to live and grow up in a peaceful community.

He told policemen: “Wala naman tayong karapatan, bagamat binigyan tayo ng armas at sandata, na abusuhin at gamitin ito para sa kapakinabangan nating personal. Yan ay binigay sa inyo upang ipagtanggol ang mga mamamayan manupa ang mga naapi (we do not have the right, despite being given arms, to use the same for our personal interests. Those were given to you to defend the people most especially the oppressed)”.

Domagoso also thanked the officials and members of the Manila Police Department for the support given to him and for serving as front-liners in this time of the pandemic. (PNA)
