MANILA — Confirmatory swab tests conducted on former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez has yielded negative results for coronavirus disease Covid-19), the Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) spokesman said Thursday.
Speaking to newsmen, Gabriel Chaclag said Sanchez is “now stable” and is at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Hospital.
Sanchez has been taken off the intravenous dextrose line, Chaclag added.
Sanchez has been diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia. He also suffered from acute gastroenteritis, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.
Sanchez is serving a sentence of seven reclusion perpetua for the rape and killing of a female student and her male companion in 1993 when he was still mayor.
Last year, reports said Sanchez may be released soon if a law on good conduct time allowance (GCTA) for persons deprived of liberty was applied in his case.
Authorities have since reiterated that the GCTA does not apply to heinous crime cases. (PNA)
