NAIA customs busts marijuana shipment; claimant arrested

MANILA – In cooperation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Task Force, the Bureau of Customs-NAIA busted a high-end drug delivery operations and arrested the claimant of 500 grams high grade marijuana worth Php808,000 in a warehouse in Pasay City.

The parcel was declared as “4m kids labs remote control detector robot kit” and was shipped by a certain “Toynk Toys” from Markham, Canada.

The package was subjected to x-ray scanning, manned by the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP-NAIA), and yielded suspected images of dangerous drugs.

NAIA Customs examiner then conducted 100% physical examination thereof and found to contain high grade marijuana which was confirmed by the tests conducted by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Subject parcel was immediately turned over to PDEA for proper disposition; conducted a controlled delivery operations with BOC CAIDTF and NAIA IATG that led to the arrest of claimant, a certain Kevin Dela Cruz y Quimpo.

Further investigation against all  persons involved in the illegal importation and ongoing while eventual prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act are being readied.

The said apprehension and arrest are in furtherance with the strict instructions of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero to further intensify anti-illegal drugs efforts in coordination with PDEA to totally eradicate the entry of illegal drugs and substances in the country.
