MANILA – The Bureau of Customs main office said Monday, 07 September 2020 that the Port of Aparri has recently raided a warehouse in Minante II, Cauayan City, Isabela which resulted to the apprehension of six (6) interconnected fake cigarette-making machines along with other items.
Armed with a Letter of Authority signed by Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, Customs personnel of BOC Aparri led by their team leader, Customs Police Special Lieutenant Robert S. Espinosa, in coordination with the enforcement officers of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cagayan and some elected officials of Barangay Minante II, raided the said warehouse.
As of this writing, the identity of the perpetrators is still unknown since the owner of the warehouse is denying ownership over the two trucks to where the machines and other paraphernalia were discovered.
“Although the raiding team did not find any actual fake cigarette, the operation is still a successful one because it foiled a large-scale attempt to produce fake cigarettes,” said SVCOO Arienito M. Claveria, Acting District Collector of the BOC Port of Aparri.
The Bureau of Customs reiterates its commitment to prevent the entry of fake goods or any equipment that may be utilized to produce fake goods not only because it may have serious effects on the health of unknowing users but also may bring negative the impact on legitimate manufactures and importers.
