The Department of Health (DOH) — CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) has formally inaugurated its first traditional complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM) center located at Batangas Medical Center (BatMC) in Batangas City.

“We have created the TCAM center with the objective of providing and incorporating the benefits of traditional medicine and the advances in alternative technology. This is a health resource that can provide prevention and management of lifestyle-related diseases and also in meeting the health needs of the elderly population,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated in his message during the inauguration and blessing of the center.

“Kahit sino pwedeng pumunta dito, me sakit man o wala. Lalo na ang ating mga elderly na mayroong mga dinaramdam at sa mga kababayan natin na gustong magpagamot gamit ang complementary at alternative medicine para hind sila maging drug dependent.”

Janairo further emphasized that the TCAM center will also provide services for children. “Kailangang from birth or bago pa ipanganak ang isang tao maipasok na sya sa mainstream ng traditional at alternative medicine not only as prevention for disease but to increase the leverage to fight diseases and strengthen the immune system.”

“Kaya importante dito ang nutrition, regular exercise at iba pang modalities na pwde nating ipasok sa TCAM kasi ito ang magpapatunay na hindi mo kailangang uminom ng maraming gamot at yung sakit mo sa pagtanda ay mababawasan o hindi ka magkakasakit lalo na kung uumpisahan natin ito during early stages of life,” he added.

The TCAM Center is a hybrid health and healing center that offers natural ways of healthy living using alternative medicine including, acupuncture, yoga, ventosa, moxibustion and herbal medicines. It is outfitted with various rooms including a mini- micro laboratory, spa, assessment and evaluation, yoga and music therapy, medical work out and relief and wellness. The DOH CALABARZON TCAM Center is in partnership with the Alliance of Health- Oriented Neighbors (AHON).

DOH-CALABARZON Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo said it is of utmost importance that traditional, complementary and alternative medicine are observed in the prevention and management of lifestyle-related diseases during the inauguration and blessing of the first TCAM Center in the region located inside the compound of the Batangas Medical Center in Batangas City on September 10, 2020.
