‘Leon’ to bring rains over most of PH

Track of tropical storm Leon (PAGASA)

MANILA – Tropical storm “Leon” will cause rains over most parts of the archipelago on Wednesday, a weather specialist said.

Based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) severe weather bulletin issued at 5.am., Leon was last tracked 225 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan, heading west northwestward at 10 kms. per hour.

“Although no tropical cyclone wind signal currently raised on any part of the country, most parts of the country will experience rains due to the tropical storm,” PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Aurora, Rizal, Palawan (including Kalayaan, Calamian, and Cuyo Islands), Mindoro provinces, Romblon, Western Visayas, and Negros Oriental.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Metro Manila, Isabela, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and the rest of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Visayas.

PAGASA also forecast intermittent gusts over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Palawan (including Kalayaan, Calamian, and Cuyo Islands), Mindoro provinces, Romblon, and Western Visayas.

Flooding and landslide may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, PAGASA warned.

Gale warning was issued over the western seaboard of Palawan (including Calamian and Kalayaan Islands) and Occidental Mindoro (including Lubang Island) due to rough to very rough seas. Sea travel is risky over these areas.

Moderate to rough seas will prevail over the northern, eastern, and southern seaboards of Luzon, and the seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao.

Fisherfolk and those with small seacraft are advised to take precaution when venturing out to sea over these areas.

Mendoza said Leon may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday. (PNA)
