In coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), the Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA busted another shipment of 980 pieces of MDMA or commonly called “ecstasy” worth Php1.8 million. The parcel was misdeclared as “Samples” in Central Mail Exchange Center. The said parcel was shipped by a certain “U Janssen” from Netherlands and consigned to a certain “Joey S. Ramos Jr.” from Malate, Manila.
Through the vigilance and strict profiling of Customs personnel, the parcel was subjected to X-ray Scanning which yielded suspicious images of dangerous drugs. Thereafter, the discovery was immediately coordinated with PDEA and NAIA-IADITG, and subjected the parcel to 100% physical examination.
In the course thereof, three (3) vacuum sealed pouches containing different colors of pills – gray, turquoise, and orange pills – were found concealed inside a brown envelope.
Both field tests conducted by CAIDTF and PDEA Chemical Laboratory confirmed that the seized Tablets were indeed Ecstacy. Today, 17 September 2020, BoC-NAIA turned over to PDEA the subject seized illegal drugs for further profiling and case build-up against the importers and other personalities involved for possible prosecution on violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to Section 1401 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
BoC-NAIA, through continuous and active collaboration with PDEA and NAIA-IADITG, shall remain steadfast and committed in the intensified border control and anti-illegal drugs campaign of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero. (Kiara Lauren Ibanez / BENJAMIN CUARESMA) (IA/DS)
