LAOAG CITY – The city government of Batac has acquired its own swabbing center to assist residents who need to be tested for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The City Health Office (CHO) said at least 42 residents were already served since the center opened last Tuesday.
Instead of going to the Department of Public Works and Highways swabbing facility to have their specimens collected, Batac residents can now go to the local government unit-run swabbing center for quick nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs.
With the expanded contact tracing measures being implemented in the province, local government units here have initiated measures to lessen the burden of laboratory personnel assigned in Covid-19 hospitals.
At the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, walk-in patients at the molecular biology laboratory for Covid-19 are no longer entertained due to the influx of swab samples arriving daily from various parts of Ilocos Norte and its nearby provinces.
“As part of our efforts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, the city government of Batac has put up its own swabbing station to cater to our residents who have exposure to Covid-19 cases,” said Mayor Albert Chua in an interview Friday.
Trained medical technologists from the CHO collect samples from a suspect and probable person with the assistance of health care workers who interview them.
Since March 31, Batac City has recorded eight confirmed cases with five recoveries and three active cases.
The city government likewise constructed its own smart house quarantine facility, serving a total of 2,091 patients so far. (PNA)
