Taguig opens 500-bed mega quarantine facility

TAGUIG City has on Friday, 25 September 2020 formally opened its 500-bed mega quarantine facility attended by no less than the country’s top guns in the battle against coronavirus.

Department of Health Secretary and Inter-Agency Task Force chief Francisco Duque, DILG Sec. and IATF vice-chair Eduardo Ano, Covid-19 Response chief implementor Sec. Charlie Galvez, and contact tracing tzar and Presidential Adviser on Flagship Projects Sec. Vince Dizon inspected the 500-bed quarantine facility.

Led by Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, the said officials also graced the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility which is located at Lakeshore Hotel Complex C6 Taguig City.

At the same time, the key officials in the fight against Covid-19 also inspected Taguig City’s Molecular Laboratory for coronavirus and other diseases.

According to Cayetano, the quarantine facility would accommodate Covid-19 suspects, probable and confirmed cases, and even those who are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.

Mayor Cayetano also told the National Task Force CODE Team Taguig holds the distinction as the city with the lowest statistics on fatalities in the National Capital Region.

Taguig only has 0.79 percent deaths compared to NCR’s 1.60 percent.

It was also learned Taguig also holds the highest percentage on recoveries.

The city only has 389 active cases of Covid-19 at present.

It has a total of 6,544 recoveries out of its 6,988 caseload while the number of deaths remains low at 55 since the outbreak began in March.  Rashid Mohammad / BENJAMIN CUARESMA
