Relatives, families of ill-fated Gulf Livestock 1 cargo ship offer prayers, flowers for their dear departed in Manila Bay

Accompanied by a priest and officials of the Philippine Coastguard, the relatives and families of Filipino seafarers who perished at sea last Sept. 2, 2020 aboard the ill-fated cargo ship Gulf Livestock 1, offer prayers and flowers in a solemn and heart-tugging ceremony for their dear departed in Manila Bay on Sunday, September 27, 2020.

Loaded with 6,000 live cows, the Gulf Livestock 1 capsized in western Japan seas en route to China. Only two (2) of the 36 Filipino seafarers aboard survived.

In 1996, Filipino seafarers were estimated to be at more than 250,000 and that number accordingly increased to 460,000 in 2013.
