29 recoveries bring down PCG’s active Covid-19 cases to 70

MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday said 29 of its personnel have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, bringing the maritime group’s active cases down to 70 from 85 on Tuesday.

According to a Facebook post, the PCG has recorded a total of 1,560 recoveries and zero deaths among its 1,630 frontline personnel who were infected with Covid-19.

As of Friday, it also recorded 22 cases of reinfection — five currently among its active Covid-19 cases while 17 have successfully recovered for a second or third time.

“The health condition of infected PCG frontline personnel are regularly monitored, most especially the 22 cases of reinfection as of 02 October 2020,” the PCG said.

Meanwhile, the PCG’s exclusive quarantine facility — which can accommodate up to 224 of its infected frontline personnel at the same time — is now complete and scheduled for inauguration on Saturday, in time for the PCG’s 119th founding anniversary.

“This facility will allow the PCG Medical Service to better manage the active Covid-19 cases within the organization for their speedy recovery and rehabilitation,” the PCG said.

Earlier on Thursday, it said the completion of the facility was delayed by a week, from within September to Oct. 5 due to a number of workers who tested positive for Covid-19. (PNA)
