TACLOBAN CITY – Another 58 patients recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Eastern Visayas, the Department of Health (DOH) regional office reported on Tuesday.
This brings the region’s total tally of Covid-19 recoveries to 4,258, or 85.86 percent of the total 4,959 cases.
To date, the region has 664 active cases admitted in hospitals, local isolation units, and temporary treatment and monitoring facilities, the DOH said.
This includes 31 newly-reported cases — 14 in Samar, 10 in Leyte, six in Southern Leyte, and one in Tacloban.
“They are part of 621 swab results released Monday night from the two Covid-19 laboratories here. The new cases are mostly close contacts of confirmed patients,” said John Paul Roca, DOH Eastern Visayas regional information officer.
He added that the region has noted a decrease in new cases for the past few days, reminding the public that the strict practice of minimum health standards is key to breaking the transmission of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the region has also logged three new deaths, raising the death toll to 49.
These include an 82-year-old woman here, a 75-year-old man from Calbayog City who died on October 2, and a 75-year-old woman from Tanauan, Leyte who died on Monday.
“Most reported deaths in the region are senior citizens and have comorbidities. They are either dialysis or hypertensive patients, among others,” Roca said.
He assured that concerned local government units strictly followed the DOH guidelines on handling and disposal of human remains of infected patients.
The health department also urged those with flu-like symptoms to immediately report to health authorities such as the Barangay (village) Health Emergency Response Team for proper management and monitoring. (PNA)
