Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri — the “Gentleman Senator” from Bukidnon — bested incumbent, returning and wannabe senatoriables by snatching the #1 spot of the recently released Pulse Asia 2022 Senatorial survey, ahead of massive names such as Bongbong Marcos, Sara Duterte and Panfilo Lacson.
One pundit referred to the surprising development as “a ray hope for the upcoming race” and as a sign that “voters are more informed these days”. Another political insider expressed admiration for Zubiri and commented by saying that voters “see through the circus and gimmickry of several of the other candidates”.
Universally known across all parties as a true statesman, Zubiri’s work ethic has been the driving force of his rapidly growing popularity.
Zubiri, unbeknownst to most, has not missed a day of government work since the 1990’s — well over two decades of an impeccable attendance record.
As one of the very first Filipino public figures to contract Covid-19, he bravely showed the way on how to properly quarantine and follow protocols. He was honest to health officials about his condition from its genesis, he was transparent with the public, and responsible in notifying those he came into contact with — all the while continuing to work for the government online.
Zubiri is also known for being friendly across political lines, which helps him in passing important bills at a very quick pace.
He is also one of the few true champions of sports and athletes in the Philippines; as well as a massive proponent for farmers’ welfare and renewable energy.
