VP Leni Robredo

WHEN AMERICA SNEEZES, THE PHILIPPINES CATCHES COLD seem to have put some adrenaline on the supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo who predicted on Thursday of bigger chances of winning the presidency in 2022 if Joe Biden makes it to the White House.
“Malaki na chance ni VP Leni (Robredo). Yung kampo ni Digong (President Duterte), mas maraming gahaman. Mukhang magkakagulo sila. Pumoporma na nang hiwalay sina BBM (Bongbong Marcos) and Pacman (Manny Pacquiao),” Noel Medina, a Liberal Party stalwart, told Maharlika TV.
He said Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong may also take a shot for the presidency 18 months from now.
“Basag ang boto ng mga bobo at walang prinsipyo,” Medina quipped.
However, he expressed belief that Lacson and Magalong would only be “panggulo” (spoilers).
“Pero fallback ni Magalong ang Senate. Wala pang VP (si Robredo). Si Ramon Ang nagpapaingay lang, pero will remain as king-maker. Hawak nya si Speaker Velasco at Duterte family. Hawak nya rin ang mahigit kalahati ng ‘big ticket’ projects ng gobyerno,” Medina said.
The LP stalwart earlier denied that either LP president Francis Pancratius “Kiko” Pangilinan or human rights lawyer Chel Diokno may replace Robredo as the opposition standard-bearer in 2022.
Some political analysts said a Biden presidency in the US may embolden the opposition to press on with their accusations of human rights violations in the course of the anti-drug war and counter-insurgency campaign of the Duterte administration.
They said Duterte is perceived to be pro-Trump and if Biden wins, whoever will be anointed by the Philippine president for the 2022 presidential polls will face the proverbial uphill battle.
