MANILA – Talk ‘N Text advanced in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup semifinals after repulsing Alaska, 104-83, in their quarterfinal game at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center on Saturday night.
The Tropang Giga pulled away from the Aces after outscoring them, 33-15, in the third quarter to break a 51-all tie and open an 84-66 lead entering the fourth period.
RR Pogoy finished with 34 points on 9-of-15 shooting, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals for TNT, which will face the winner of the other quarterfinal pairing between Phoenix and Magnolia in the next round.
The game between the second seeded Fuel Masters and the seventh seeded Hotshots is ongoing as of posting with the former looking to finish off the latter to clinch a Final 4 spot outright.
Jeron Teng made 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals for Alaska, which lost Abel Galliguez the rest of the way after falling down hard while trying to block Parks’ dunk attempt.
Phoenix ousts Magnolia
Phoenix set up a semifinal date with TNT after beating Magnolia, 89-88, in another quarterfinal game on Saturday night.
Matt Wright won it for the Fuel Masters after drilling a running triple with 9.8 seconds to go and the shot clock winding down.
Paul Lee had a chance to force sudden death for the seventh seeded Hotshots, who entered the quarterfinals with a twice-to-beat disadvantage, but the tough defense of Alex Mallari forced him to take a step back jumper that only bounced off the rim before time expired.
Wright ended up with 32 points on 9-of-18 shooting, five rebounds, nine assists, and one steal for Phoenix, which will face TNT in the semifinals beginning Wednesday night.
Jason Perkins added 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
Lee put up 17 points, five rebounds, and six assists for Magnolia, which will miss the semifinals after making back-to-back Philippine Cup Finals appearances.
Ian Sangalang added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds with one assist. (PNA)
