More female cops to be installed in command positions: Sinas

MANILA – Expect more female police officers to be installed in key positions at the Philippine National Police (PNP), Gen. Debold Sinas said Tuesday.

“Female PCO (police commissioned officers), yes we will since they are our partners (and) expect them to fill in key positions like district directors and regional directors in the coming days,” Sinas said in a text message.

Sinas initiated forming the first-ever municipal police station ran by female police officers on the island-province of Siquijor when he was Police Regional Office 7 (Central Visayas) director.

Upon becoming chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, Sinas replicated his move at PRO-7 and formed an all-female police community precinct in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig last March.

Sinas said the empowerment of women would encourage them to be independent, have positive self-esteem, generate confidence as they face difficult situations related to policing.

He earlier said this would serve as an opportunity for women cops to showcase their abilities and capabilities.

Last October, Sinas had appointed Col. Angela Rejano as the new chief of police of Malabon City Police. Rejano was the former chief of the NCRPO Regional Plans and Strategy Management Division.

Rejano was the first female chief of police in Sorsogon City, and the first female provincial director in Siquijor. (PNA)
