MANILA – Wanting to clear his name, ousted House Speaker and Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano has challenged Senator Risa Hontiveros to resign if she does not find a “whiff of corruption” in the construction of the sports facilities Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Hontiveros earlier called for a full-scale probe investigation into the P9.5-billion construction of Tarlac’s SEA Games facilities, airing a possible “remarkable degree of collusion.”
Last November 10, Hontiveros floated a possible collusion in the construction of sports facilities in New Clark City that were used in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games – the event led by Cayetano.
The opposition senator then urged the Senate to launch a probe into a P9.5-billion loan allegedly “facilitated” by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority to build sports facilities at New Clark City for the SEA Games.
Cayetano vehemently denied Hontiveros’ allegation and countered that the government “followed the procurement law” in the construction of the facility.
He also strongly denied using the athletes to defend an excuse to sweep the issue of possible irregularities in SEA Games under the rug.
