MANILA — The Bureau of Customs port of Davao has strengthened its capabilities in its continuing effort to protect the borders of Mindanao from the entry of illegal and harmful drugs.
Through Seaport Interdiction Seminar Customs Davao in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office XI that the customs office of Davao is building up its information gathering system.
According to Port of Davao District Collector Atty. Erastus Sandino Austria, the surveillance techniques will help keep the Bureau’s intelligence capability abreast with the present time.
Austria also said that they will continue to invest on similar initiatives. The officer believes that the conduct of this seminar reinforces the current knowledge of their Customs Officers on illegal trading of drugs.
The 5-day seminar included discussions on identification of common illegal drugs brought into the country illegally and analysis of suspicious movement of goods, among others.
With this knowledge on drug apprehension, BOC Davao assures stronger border protection implementation in its areas of responsibility following the orders of Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero. (AI/MTVN)
