MANILA — The number of casualties allegedly due to the Dengvaxia vaccine has risen to 159, following the death of 15-year-old Jayssie Albert Legaspi (in photo).
According to Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Rueda Acosta, Legaspi was a Grade 5 student when he was inoculated with Dengvaxia in 2016 without getting a consent from his parents.
He later received two more shots of the vaccine in 2017 and 2018.
According to the boy’s mother, Maricel Fernandez, she recently brought her child to the Philippine Children’s Medical Center in Quezon City where he stayed for seven days.
Due to the painful injections that were given to him, the boy pretended to be okay so he could go home.
Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, Maricel said when they arrived at their home in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, the boy suddenly collapsed.
She immediately brought her son to the Veteran’s Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Acosta said the PAO’s forensic experts will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. (AI/MTVN/FCECILIO)
