MANILA — Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco T. Duque III has designated Dr. Paula Paz M. Sydiongco, Director III and the current Assistant Regional Director of DOH- CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) as the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the regional office in the light of the compulsory retirement of Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo on November 20, 2020, who turned 65 years old.
Under the Department Personnel Order No. 2020-2683, Dr. Sydiongco shall perform the routine functions vested in the position of a regional director, with all the benefits and privileges therewith.
The order took effect on November 21, 2020.
Sydiongco has 33 years of dedicated service with the health department coupled with the full commitment and ardent passion to serve, she can completely steer and manage the reforms and successful implementation of health programs instituted by her predecessor.
“I will continue the health innovations and development programs to improved health policies and systems started by Director Janairo and ensure that health services will improve people’s health, focusing on the needs of vulnerable populations,” she stated.
Sydiongco obtained her medical degree at the Cebu Doctor’s College of Medicine in 1980. She attained her Masters of Public Health at the University of the Philippines-College of Public Medicine in 1990 and Masters in Business Administration at the Asian Development Foundation College in 2019.
Among the key positions she held were Medical Parasitologist, Rural Health Physician, District Medical Officer, Provincial DOH Representative, Division Chief and presently as Director III.
She is a native of Tacloban City.
Sydiongco assured that health concerns, especially during the pandemic will be addressed immediately. (AI/FC/MTVN)
