LAOAG CITY – At least 100 students and out-of-school youth aged 18 to 30 years old have started working in various local government offices here starting Wednesday.
As part of the continuing special program for the employment of students (SPES), the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO) under the provincial government of Ilocos Norte have prioritized those whose families have been affected by the pandemic to help them earn for their basic needs.
“Our SPES today is in partnership with the INTO. There are many applicants but we only have limited slots so we can only accommodate a total of 100 beneficiaries,” PESO manager Anne Marie Lizette Atuan said in an interview Thursday.
She said those who were not included in the shortlist may try again to apply during the summer break in schools.
In previous years, beneficiaries were asked to render at least 15 days of service but this year, the number of working days was reduced to 10 days.
Each of them will receive an honorarium of PHP3,400.
SPES is part of the numerous employment programs of the provincial government that cater to unemployed individuals, daily wage earners, and displaced workers affected by the pandemic. (PNA)
