MANILA — Bemedalled gymnast Daniela Reggie Dela Pisa bagged two gold medals at the 2020 Santa’s Cup in Budapest, Hungary on Friday in her return to competitive action to chase needed points to qualify for next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

Dela Pisa, a Cebuana ovarian cancer survivor, showed her championship routine in rhythmic gymnast to pocket gold medals in the Hoop and Club events.

The performance was a fitting follow-up to her outstanding showing at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in Manila where she ended the gold-medal drought in rhythmic gymnastics for Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP).

Aside from wining the country’s first gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics for the Philippines since 2011, Dela Pisa also won two bronze medals in the biennial meet.

Before joining the national team, she also won medals in the Batang Pinoy, Palarong Pambansa and the Philippine National Games (PNG).

Also bringing honor for the tri-colors was Breanna Labadan, who won one gold and two silver medals.

Both athletes are currently undergoing extensive training in Hungary under the supervision of former Hungarian champion coach Dora Vass. (AI/FC/MTVN)
