MANILA — Talks regarding the procurement of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is currently ongoing but contracts are likely to be signed by January 2021, according to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr.
“Iyon po ang nakikita po natin, na karamihan po sa mga ating pirmahan ay pinipilit po namin magkaroon kami ng initial success this December and most likely mga January,” Galvez said.
Galvez is hoping the country could receive the initial tranche of COVID-19 vaccines in the first quarter of 2021 and the second batch by the second quarter of next year.
“We are expecting iyong volumes ng ating mga vaccine will be coming at early third quarter,” Galvez pointed out.
As of now, Galvez said the country is in the advanced stages of negotiations with five companies while exploratory talks are ongoing with five other firms.
The government is optimistic to finalize agreements with China’s Sinovac next week, he added. (FC/MTVN)
