MANILA — Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez on Monday had a fruitful meeting with Saudi ambassador Dr. Abdullah N.A. Al Bussairy and his Administrative Officer Amr Alyas at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City.
Ramirez said the meeting tackled various issues, particularly Saudi’s first-ever bid to host the 2030 Asian Games in its capital of Riyadh.
“We are so honored with the visit of the Saudi Arabia Ambassador and his administrative officer. The main agenda of their visit is they need our support for the Asian Games,” said Ramirez.
The two officials also discussed the country’s experience in hosting various international events which Saudi could utilize if it is chosen as host of the quadrennial meet.
Ramirez, for his part, graciously shared the PSC’s various sports programs as well as the different successful events and activities held in the country.
“We also talked about the new direction of Saudi Arabia to use sports as a vehicle for more linkages and how sports can help Mindanao achieve lasting peace and development,” Ramirez said.
Aside from Saudi Arabia, its neighboring country Qatar is also eyeing to play host to the international event in its capital of Doha. (AI/FC/MTVN)
