QUEZON CITY — Three unidentified robbers were neutralized in an armed encounter with operatives of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) under the leadership of Major Sandie Caparroso and Batasan Police Station (PS 6) under Lieutenant Colonel Romulus Gadaoni early Friday morning in Barangay Batasan Hills.
In a report to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), QCPD director Brigadier General Danilo Macerin said that the trio’s victim was traversing through Batasan Hills aboard his passenger taxi cab when two of the alleged robbers flagged him down to pose as passengers bound for Fairview General Hospital.
Initially, the taxi driver failed to notice a third robber who was tailing them from behind aboard a black motorcycle and on arriving in Bgy. Greater Fairview, the suspects pulled out their guns and at gunpoint robbed the victim of his money amounting to PhP3,700 and his personal belongings, including his driver’s license, barangay identification card and cellular phone, and took away the victim’s taxi as their getaway vehicle.
After committing the robbery in just a few minutes, the suspects immediately sped off south bound, prompting the victim to proceed to Traffic Sector 5 to report the incident and later to Fairview Police Station (PS 5), where his report was given action by the police.
Operatives from PS 5 quickly responded and a flash alarm was issued which resulted in the interception by authorities of the victim’s white Toyota Vios taxi cab with plate number UVH 765 at Sauyo Road in Bgy. Sauyo.
Upon seeing the responding police car, the suspects fired their guns, prompting policemen to return fire.
The third robber on board the black motorcycle was also intercepted an hour later at a checkpoint on IBP Road in Batasan Hills. The suspect tried to speed off to escape from pursuing cops while firing his gun but was eventually slain on reaching the police checkpoint.
Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) investigators recovered from two of the suspects a caliber .38 revolver without serial number, a Colt .45 caliber pistol with magazine and with serial number 08137, nine pieces of empty cartridge cases of a caliber 9mm, six pieces of fired cartridge cases of a .45 caliber and their victim’s taxi cab.
Recovered from the third suspect were one Yamaha FZ motorcycle, one caliber 9mm pistol loaded with six fired cartridge cases and one sling bag containing assorted IDs of the suspect. (AI/MTVN)
