LA PAZ, Tarlac — Two individuals were killed on the spot after a speeding ambulance slammed their vehicle on a head-on collision on Friday afternoon here.
The victims, who were riding a tricycle, were identified as Noel Halili, 24, Randy Halili, 32, both residents of this town. The force of the impact threw them out of their vehicle while the tricycle was split into two.
According to the La Paz Police Office, the driver of the ambulance had overtaken two trucks before colliding with the incoming tricycle on his left side. The ambulance was not carrying any passenger at the time of the incident.
The dash cam recovered from the ambulance showed that the vehicle was running at an approximate speed of 120 kph or more. The video recorder is now in the custody of the police to be used as evidence for the investigation.
The relatives of the two victims have called for justice for the death of their loved ones. Noel was survived by his wife and two young children while Randy was survived by his wife and three young children.
The surviving families said they were being offered Php100,000 by the family of the ambulance driver as settlement and in exchange for not filing a case in court. (AI/FC/MTVN)
