MANILA – Caseload of the coronavirus disease in the country soared to 459,789 on Sunday, 20 December 2020, after the Department of Health chalked up 1,754 new positive Covid-19 infections.
Active cases, meantime, was reported to be at 21,708 (4.7%) or those Covid-19 patients who are still undergoing treatment or quarantine in different hospitals and isolation centers in the country.
There was a big number of recoveries on Sunday, 8,080 to be exact, that all but propelled the number of heals or survivors of the killer disease to 429,134.
The death toll rose to 8,947 as the agency reported 36 more fatalities, the same recorded yesterday.
With positivity rate as of Dec. 20, 2020 at 5.5% based on the 21,281 people tested before 12 p.m. the day previous, 1,163 of whom tested positive, a little bit lower than yesterday.
The country is now on its 279th day of lockdown and is considered as one of the longest community quarantines in the world.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that coronavirus infections among their personnel already reached 8,702 after almost 10 months since they were tasked to carry out and implement pandemic-related rules and regulations.
On Sunday, the PNP said it monitored 33 more additional cases.
Some 8,267 have recovered, with 408 active cases and 27 total deaths.
Global Covid cases
Globally, covid-19 coronavirus cases now reached 76,650,720 with death toll at 1,692,465.
The number of recoveries is at 53,778,020 with active cases at 21,180,235. Patients with mild condition is at 21,073,870 (99.5%) and in serious or critical at 106,365 (0.5%).
