CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 (Central Luzon) on Monday strongly condemned the killing of a mother and son by a police officer in Paniqui town, Tarlac province on Sunday.
Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca, 46, assigned at the Parañaque City Crime Laboratory, shot dead his two neighbors, identified as Sonya Rufino Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony Gregorio, in Barangay Cabayaoasan following an altercation.
Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, PRO-3 chief, assured that there would be no whitewash in the investigation and any infraction or wrongdoing committed by any member of the Philippine National Police would never be tolerated.
“We assure the public as well as the victims’ families, of our total commitment to ensure that justice will be swiftly given to them,” de Leon said in a statement.
Tarlac Governor Susan Yap likewise condemned the killing to the highest degree.
“Whatever commotion happened before the shooting incident, the police officer should not have murdered the victims. He should have observed maximum tolerance,” Yap said.
She said there are no sacred cows in the province and the full force of the law should be imposed against Nuezca, who turned himself in to the police in Rosales, Pangasinan hours after the shooting incident.
“Erring cops have no place in our society,” Yap said, promising to personally follow up on the case and make sure that justice is served to the victims.
Nuezca is under the custody of the Paniqui police and is facing administrative and criminal charges for double murder. (PNA)
