MANILA — The Department of Health has on Tuesday, 22 December 2020, chalked up 1,314 new coronavirus infections, pushing the country’s total to 462,815 even as the government prepares for a surge in cases during the holiday season.
Quezon City recorded with the highest number of new cases at 93 individuals followed by Rizal Province with 89, Benguet with 78, Bulacan with 61 and Davao City with 60.
The DOH also recorded 247 new recoveries, bringing the total number of COVID-19 survivors in the country to 429,419.
Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 9,021 after 66 more patients succumbed to the disease.
The DOH has been urging the public to wear masks and face shields, observe physical distancing, practice frequent handwashing and avoiding crowded and enclosed areas.
People have been also advised to avoid activities that eject respiratory droplets into the air such as singing or Christmas caroling.
Currently, the Philippines stands as the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia after Indonesia.
Worldwide, at least 77,394,940 individuals got infected by the virus including 1,703,164 deaths.
The United States continue to be the most impacted country with 18,083,055 cases and 319,762 followed by India, 10,075,116 and 146,111 deaths; Brazil, 7,263,619 and 187,291 fatalities; and Russia with 2,850,042 cases and 50,723 deaths. (AI/MTVN)
