An independent research agency threw caution in the wind saying it has detected a Covid-19 surge in its early stages and “has already started in the National Capital Region.”

“This is a serious cause for concern” it said but news on the mother and son killing by a heartless cop seem to consume the attention of every “Juan” and all.

Even the tough guy as he portrays himself and perceived by many as such, President Rodrigo Duterte himself was allegedly shocked after Palace spokesman Harry Roque showed him the video grab of the brutal killing of mother and son by a seemingly “deranged” police officer in Tarlac on Sunday.

As such, extremely shocked by the now viral video even, the President ordered immediate incarceration of the perpetrator. He is now languishing in jail and may have to do so for the rest of his productive life.

Wracked by the latest infamous caper of one of his men, PNP chief PGen Debold Sinas also ordered his underlings to draw up a plan by which elements of the PNP must and will undergo “anger management” the soonest possible time.

Not to be outdone, the House of Representatives said it will also launch an investigation “in aid of legislation” on the hapless killing of civilians by the police officer from Paranaque vacationing in Tarlac.

Here goes MTVN’s choice cuts of top news that went live earlier:

Duterte shocked by viral video

Even a tough guy like President Rodrigo Duterte was shocked after watching the viral video of the Tarlac shooting incident shown to him by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.

During his address to the nation late Monday night, Duterte condemned the “brutal” death of a mother and son in Tarlac in the hands of a policeman, saying the latter should rot in jail.

“I am sure that by now, he should not be allowed to go out because double murder ‘yon eh (that’s double murder). Double murder is a serious offense, a grave offense. So from the time you are arrested up to the time that you are haled to court to answer for the death of those two persons, innocent ones, walang bail ka (that has no bail),” he said.

“So ‘pag nahuli ka, dire-diretso na ‘yan (when you get caught, you head straight to jail). And I don’t think that you can escape the rigors of justice because nakuha sa TV pati ako napanganga (it was caught on TV, even I was surprised),” he added.

Duterte rejected the policeman’s abuse of power, noting that he was exhibiting authority while in plainclothes.

He described the cop as “crazy”, wondering how he passed his neuropsychiatric examinations, which is required of police applicants.

“Congress must act now to determine what reforms are needed to ensure that PNP personnel are of sound body and mind in the performance of their duties. Congress must also assess whether it is time to prohibit policemen from carrying guns while off-duty, as how it is in other countries,” Quimbo said.

Netizens were shocked and outraged upon seeing the video of Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca shooting at close range Sonya Gregorio, 52, and her son Frank, 25, on Sunday, December 20.

Even President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night, December 21, admitted being shocked when he watched the viral video of the killing of a mother and son by a police officer in Paniqui, Tarlac.

He described Nuezca as “may sakit sa utak” (crazy) and the incident as “too brutal.”

“It is in this light that we believe, based on our analysis of the data and of the past trends in the NCR (National Capital Region) that a surge in its early stages has already started in the region. This is a serious cause for concern,” ayon sa grupo.

“While we must and we will celebrate Christmas, we should do so safely and responsibly, not just to ensure our own safety and well-being, but that of our families and our community,” wika ng grupo.

Binanggit ng grupo na tumaas ang bilang ng kaso ng COVID-19 sa Europa at Estados Unidos dahil sa mga party kaugnay ng pagdiriwang ng kapaskuhan.

NBI confirms body found in Tarlac to be ex-CA justice

MANILA – The Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed Monday that it was former Court of Appeals associate justice Normandie Pizarro’s remains that was found in Capas, Tarlac last Oct. 30.

After the NBI confirmed that the body was Pizarro’s, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the bureau is focusing on four persons of interest in the case.

“One of them is willing to divulge what he knows,” Guevarra said.

The examination of the remains was completed this week. “The NBI forensic chemistry division report showed a 99.9999 percent DNA match,” Guevarra said.

Pizarro’s black Honda Accord sedan was recovered in San Simon, Pampanga. He was last seen alive at a casino in Clark on Oct. 23.

On March 13, 2018, the Supreme Court en banc, acting on an anonymous-letter complaint, fined Pizarro PHP100,000 after the tribunal found him “guilty of conduct unbecoming of a member of the judiciary”.

The administrative matter arose from an anonymous letter-complaint charging Pizarro of habitually gambling in casinos, “selling” decisions, and immorally engaging in an illicit relationship.

PBA bubble receives high approval rating from Dizon

MANILA — THE recently-concluded PBA bubble received a high rating approval from no less than the Deputy Chief Implementer of the National Action Plan Against COVID-19.

Secretary Vince Dizon said the league deserves more than just a passing grade after it managed to traverse its 45th season with the successful staging of the Philippine Cup at Clark, Pampanga.

Barangay Ginebra won the championship after beating TnT Tropang Giga in five games of the finals.

“Conservatively, siguro nasa mga 90 percent ang aking rating,” he said Tuesday when asked in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) webcast Forum on how he would rate the bubble conference on a scale of 1 to 100. “Ang pinaka-importante ay walang nagkasakit.”

There were challenges met along the way, but Asia’s first ever play-for-league survived the test and got the job done in what was the most trying time in its long, rich history.

That wouldn’t be possible without the cooperation and help of the PBA hierarchy led by Commissioner Willie Marcial, who joined Dizon in the online session presented by San Miguel Corp., Go For Gold, MILO, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
