Sen. Manny Pacquiao

MANILA — Certainly, the People’s Champ is not telegraphing his punches even if some of his ardent admirers have formed several movements egging Senator Manny Pacquiao to run for president next year.
“Hanggat di siya (Pacquiao) nagsasabi, wala pang kasiguruhan,” a reliable source close to Pacquiao told Maharlika TV.
The same source said even if the senator has photos with those claiming to be close to him, it does not always mean that they personally knew each other or Pacquiao has given the go-signal ostensibly to organize a movement for his presidential bid.
“Siyempre, pag politiko ka hindi ka naman makahindi kung merong gustong mag-selfie kasama ka,” the source added.
Another source revealed that Pacquiao may eventually scale down his sight to running as vice presidential running mate to the administration’s likely standard-bearer who is no other than Senator Bong Go.
“Nung una si (Davao City Mayor) Sara (Duterte-Carpio) at Pacquiao ang magka-tandem pero ayaw na ng Presidente Duterte kasi sinusuway sya ni Sara sa ibang bagay kaya si (Senator) Bong Go na kakandidato at si Pacquiao o Bongbong (Marcos) ay sa Vice na lang,” the source said.
It can be noted that even if the Davao City mayor topped the latest Pulse Asia survey on who the people will likely vote if presidential elections were held today, Duterte-Carpio asked the survey firm to exclude her name from succeeding surveys.
Some political analysts said if Pacquiao, Marcos, Duterte-Carpio and Go would all run in 2022, the opposition standard-bearer Vice President Leni Robredo may win the presidential race 16 months from now.
“The administration must field a single ticket to win in a possible three-way presidential contest ” they said.
They noted that San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and Chief Operating Officer and also Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) chairman Ramon S. Ang may also join the presidential fray, with billionaire Manny V. Pangilinan as running mate. (AI/MTVN)
