MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH)-CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) today led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of three medical facilities buildings and renovation of the Maria L. Eleazar General Hospital (MELGH) in Tagkawayan, Quezon.
“We need to upgrade all health facilities in the region including its facilities to provide better service to the community,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated.
“Infrastructure development and upgrading to support health services in primary health care facilities is an essential step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” he added.
According to the improvement plan for MELGH. There will be three proposed building to be erected, a one-storey, 2-storey and a 6-storey main building.
The total amount for the project is Php725,000,000.00
Director Janairo added that it will be funded through the DOH Health Facility Infrastructure Project.
The project will be completed in a 360-day period according to the hospital and land development plan of the hospital.
Among the guest of honor during the ceremony is 4TH District Representative Helen Tan who pushed for the approval of Republic Act 11474, upgrading the Maria L. Eleazar District Hospital in Tagkawayan, Quezon to a Level III general hospital.
Tagkawayan Mayor Carlo Eleazar, whose father donated the 1-hectare land for the establishment of the Tagkawayan hospital in their town was also present.
Other guests who witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony were Dra. Wyda Beriña – Head of HFODU, Dr. Juvy Paz M. Purino – PDOHO Quezon, Vice-Mayor Danny Liwanag, Dr. Reynaldo Florido – MELGH Chief and other local officials of the province and municipality. (AI/MTVN)
