BAUANG, La Union –- A 21-year old female back rider was pronounced dead on the spot after the motorcycle she was riding knocked an individual walking on the sidewalk yesterday, January 15, 2021, at around 7:30 in the morning.
The Bauang Police identified the victim as Mae Campos, 21-year-old, vendor, single, and a resident of Barangay Cabalayangan, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Rommel Hidalgo, 25, single also a resident of the said barangay.
According to the investigation conducted by the police officials, the driver of the motor vehicle took the outer lane and overtaken an oil tanker driven by a certain Eddie Dela Rosa, 46, married from Nueva Vizcaya, and collided with an 18-year-old pedestrian walking along the side of the road.
The motorcycle fell along with its driver and passenger along the highway. Campos’ body fell in between the tires of the oil tanker and her head was run over by one of the tires of the truck which caused her instant death.
The driver of the motor vehicle suffered bruises.
Investigators said that the driver was wearing a helmet while her back rider has none.
“It is possible that the driver didn’t notice the pedestrian walking along the side of the road before he decided to take the overtake the outer lane and overtaken the tanker,” Bauang Police said. (AI/MTVN)
